howdy, everyone. wanted to take a bit to talk about the state of my NG account and what i plan to do moving forward.
to make a long story short, i don't really have any desire to be an animator anymore. it was a dream i had for a long time, but after my first major project and subsequent failed ones, i learned that i simply do not have the patience for this artform. it's very, very taxing, especially in comparison with other visual mediums such as live action. my interests have just changed over the years. instead of being an animator, i've taken steps to become an actor. still in entertainment, just in a different way. i still love animation, just not doing it myself.
i have also learned that in order for me to make animations, it has to be fun for me. and for it to be fun for me, they have to be low-effort little projects i can bang out in a week or two. like the gordon goes to the store to buy WD-40 shorts. all i did was think of the title, and whatever came next was whatever i wanted. it was low effort, low stakes, and it's one of the best animations i've ever done imo. i love those shorts. but when i look at something like neighbor next door, my biggest animation project then and since, i fucking hate it. i started to hate it shortly after i released it, and it's only half of that script.
there's the "new" penguins shorts i've been slowly chipping at for the past couple years, like the 2024 halloween special and "martians invasion earth", which i think i teased on here once, and while i love those too, they're just too big. i do genuinely want to see them finished, but the work-to-reward ratio is too low for those projects, so i'm hesitant to even see to it that they're finished at all. which sucks, because it equates to me taking advantage of voice actors doing work for free (which i'm incredibly grateful for btw). and between switching my computer from a beefy windows tower to a linux laptop, animating on flash, my preferred software, is very difficult (i'm waiting for blast to release).
if i continue to do anything with penguins or any visual medium that is not live action/otherwise shot on a camera, it will be comics. that's kinda all that penguins is now anyway. the entire series has shifted to low-effort, low stakes zine-style comic books. they're quick to make, fun, and keep it fun for me to do while still telling the stories i want to tell with these characters. i might post them on here some day.
do not expect any penguins animations, especially any huge short film style ones. if any more penguins stuff is released on newgrounds, it will almost certainly be in comic form. i apologize to the one and a half people who give a shit about this.
